It is officially summer and this coming weekend we get to celebrate another fabulous long weekend, as Canada celebrates its 145th birthday! Happy Canada Day my friends!
So what do you have planned for the long weekend? Will you be attending the fun down at Harris Park in London, Ontario on July 1st, as you await the spectacular light show that starts at 10pm? There will be vendors, local artisans, a first nations celebration, as well as other staged entertainment. I have never been able to resist a good fireworks display myself, so you might see me there (if I can stay awake that late!).
Perhaps instead, you will be heading out to East Lions Optimist Park to take in the music, dancing, bouncy rides, crafts, car show, firemen demo, fireworks and a citizenship ceremony at the East London Optimist – Canada Day Event. That sounds like a good deal too and more convenient, if you live out in the east end.
Of course, you could also go to the Community Council of White Oaks – Canada Day Celebration. Realistically, that is where I will probably end up. Aside from the fact that it will be a family fun event, with an exciting opening ceremony, there will also be live entertainment, children’s air equipment, food vendors, cake cutting, movies and fireworks. Oh, and ReForest London will be on hand selling more trees for the Million Tree Challenge.
Ah yes, the Million Tree Challenge. From 2-5pm on Sunday, July 1st, 2012, the folks from ReForest London will be on hand at White Oaks Park (at 1119 Jalna Blvd), with the last of their tree sales for the Spring. They always have approximately 10 native species available to choose from, with prices running $5 for a 2-3 foot tall specimen and $18 for 4-6 feet. You can’t beat that price!
And did you know that there have been 25,923 trees planted so far? We still have a long way to go! Maybe you can help push that number over the 26,000 mark!
Whatever you get up to this Canada Day weekend, I hope that enjoy yourself immensely. I am already dreaming of a nice frosty beverage (did I mention the temperatures are going to be through the roof again, hitting close to 40C?!) and time spent with family and friends. Hope you get to enjoy the same!
